Delaware Ends 2015 Season on High Note, Downs UMass 10-9 for First CAA Win

AMHERST, Mass. -- The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team went out on a high note Friday night in its season finale as the Blue Hens recorded a wild 10-9 Colonial Athletic Association victory over host Massachusetts at Garber Stadium.
Sophomore midfielder Jackson Finigan (Concord-Carlile/Concord, Mass.) scored a career-high
four goals, including the game-winner with 41 seconds left to play, to send the Blue Hens (5-10, 1-4 CAA) to their first league win of the season.
Delaware, which snapped a five-game losing streak, finally broke through after suffering back-to-back overtime losses to Drexel and Fairfield over the last two weeks.
Delaware senior Jeff Heath (St. Joseph's Prep/Newtown Square, Pa./at right) also had a career-nigh as he scored three goals and senior goalkeeper Brett Anton (Madison/Madison, N.J./below left) came up with his biggest effort as a Blue Hen as he turned back a career-high 18 shots, including 10 in the first half.

Finigan scored three goals and Heath added two in the opening half as the Blue Hens jumped out to a commanding 7-3 lead.
UMass scored the first two goals of the second half to cut the lead to 7-5 but the Hens answered with goals by Heath and Kormondy to push the margin back up to four.
The Minutemen then embarked on a wild comeback as they scored four straight goals, including a tally by Nick Mariano with 4:21 left to play that tied the game at 9-9. Neither team scored again until Finigan's winning goal with 41 seconds left. Barbarich won the ensuing faceoff and the Hens ran out the clock for the emotional win.
