RICHMOND, Va. -- Thanks to a career and team-high four-goal effort, including the game-winning score, University of Delaware sophomore midfielder Jackson Finigan has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 26, the league announced Monday.
On Tuesday, Finigan also was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I South Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
A finance major from Concord, Mass. (Concord-Carlisle High School/Deerfield Academy), Finigan led the Blue Hens to a 10-9 win over host Massachusetts Friday in the season finale as he scored four times and notched the game-winner with 41 seconds left to play when he broke a 9-9 tie.
Finigan, who collected his second career hat trick, also had six shots and picked up a team-high four groundballs in the victory, which helped the Blue Hens (5-10, 1-4 CAA) snap a five-game losing streak and end the season on a high note with its first league victory of the season.
He was the fourth Delaware player to be honored by the league this season as senior attackman Tom Holland and sophomore faceoff specialist Matt Olbrich were honored as CAA Player and Rookie of the Week respectively back on Feb. 9 and Will Hirschmann was named Rookie of the Week on Mar. 10.
Finigan started all 15 games on the first UD midfield unit and finished the season fourth on the team in both goals scored (15) and points (26) while his 44 groundballs led the squad. He scored at least one point in 9 of the final 10 games of the season and scored eight goals over the final four games.
In addition to Finigan, Fairfield freshman faceoff specialist Will Fox was named the CAA Rookie of the Week, earning the award for the second straight week.
