JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The University of Delaware softball team will play its final non-conference games of the season on Wednesday when the Blue Hens take on Saint Peter's in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Jaroschak Field.
Delaware, which is 27-21 on the season, will be looking to bounce back from getting swept at Hofstra over the weekend, and will attempt to build momentum heading into this weekend's critical series with Towson. The Peacocks are just 2-36 this year and have lost their last seven contests.
Live stats for both games will be available at www.saintpeterspeacocks.com.
Delaware and Saint Peter's are meeting for the fourth consecutive year, with the Blue Hens taking five of the six contests since 2012. Delaware leads the all-time series with the Peacocks, 6-3, and a doubleheader sweep would move the Blue Hens into a tie for fifth place on the UD single season wins list. The Blue Hens enter the twinbill having won their last nine non-league games, outscoring their opponents by a 75-13 margin during that stretch.
Mariah Kondravy continues to pace Delaware with a .366 batting average, while her 12 home runs and 44 RBI are both one shy of the UD single season marks. Sarah Bencivenga is hitting .353 with a team-high 15 doubles, while Jessica Grisler carries a .352 average to go with team-bests of 56 hits and 36 runs scored.
Nicole Feoli leads Saint Peter's with a .360 batting average and 18 runs scored, while Nicole Olmedo is hitting .314 with a team-high 32 hits. Samantha Storms is the third Peacocks player batting over .300 with a .304 average, along with team-bests of 10 doubles and 21 RBI.
Following the doubleheader, Delaware closes out its regular season on Friday and Saturday with a three-game home series against Towson. The Blue Hens need to sweep the Tigers to remain in contention for next week's Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.
