Blue Hens Return To CAA Action This Weekend at College of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The University of Delaware softball team returns to Colonial Athletic Association action this weekend as the Blue Hens head south for a three-game series with the College of Charleston.
The Blue Hens and Cougars will play a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a 1 p.m. single game on Sunday at the Patriots Point complex. Saturday's twinbill will be livestreamed on the Charleston Sports Network at www.cofcsports.com, while live stats for all three games will be available at www.cofcstats.com.
Delaware is 16-11 on the season, and the Blue Hens sit in fourth place in the league standings with a 3-2 league mark. UD has won three straight games and four of its last five, including a series victory over UNCW last weekend. The Blue Hens swept a doubleheader at Rider on Wednesday, 11-3 and 10-0, as UD exploded for 21 runs on 23 hits against the Broncs.
Charleston enters the series at 17-18 overall, while the Cougars are fifth in the CAA with a 2-4 conference record. Charleston opened its league schedule by taking two of three games over Elon, before getting swept at James Madison last weekend.
Mariah Kondravy cracked two home runs against Rider, and is now hitting .380 on the season with team-highs of 10 doubles, four home runs and 23 RBI. Jessica Grisler is batting .369 and leads the squad with 38 hits and 27 runs scored, while Sarah Bencivenga recorded three doubles on Wednesday to increase her batting average to .349 on the campaign.
Carolyn Szymanski, who has fired two consecutive shutouts and has not allowed an earned run in her last 19 innings, continues to pace the Delaware pitching staff with a 12-5 record and a 2.33 earned run average.
Taylor Dupree leads the Charleston attack with a .405 batting average, good for third in the league. Rebecca Mueller is hitting .346 with team-highs of 36 hits and 28 RBI, while Hope Klicker is 9-11 with a 3.27 ERA in the circle for the Cougars.
Delaware and Charleston met for the first time in school history last year during the Cougars' first season in the CAA, as Charleston took two of three games at the UD Softball Stadium.
