ELON, N.C. – The conference road woes that have plagued the University of Delaware baseball team continued Friday as the Blue Hens fell to Elon 8-3 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at Latham Park.
The Blue Hens, who have won just one CAA road game this season, have now lost four CAA games in a row and six of their last seven overall.
Jim ShermanAfter both teams failed to score a run in the first, Elon (24-24, 13-9 CAA) took control of the game with a six-run second inning.
The Phoenix initiated the scoring with a two-run single from Austin Leeney. After Kory Shumate singled to give Elon a 3-0 lead, Casey Jones launched a three-run home run to give the Phoenix a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Leeney added to his offensive output in the fifth with a two-run double. Elon led 8-0 heading into the sixth when Delaware (19-21, 7-12 CAA) was finally able to put runs on the board.
