LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team was one of 146 Division I squads that earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 season, the organization announced last week.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Current senior Katie Hillman was selected to the CAA All-Academic Team a year ago, and was a CoSIDA Academic All-America nominee as well. She was joined on the National College Athlete Honor Society by teammates Ariel Shonk and Alexa Swann. Additionally, 12 of the 15 members of last year's squad were named to the CAA Academic Honor Roll.
The Blue Hens held their first official practice of the 2015 season on Monday, and will open the campaign against Southern Illinois, Central Florida and Northern Colorado on Aug. 28-29 at the UCF Invitational.
