RICHMOND, Va. -- Coming off a season in which they narrowly missed a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, the University of Delaware women's soccer squad has been predicted to finish sixth in the CAA Coaches preseason poll announced Tuesday afternoon.
Scott Grzenda, who will enter his 26th season as the only head coach in school history. “Our expectations are to finish ahead of any preseason poll and compete for a championship.”During the 2014 campaign, the Blue Hens finished 3-4-2 in the conference, tied for sixth in the standings. Delaware did not advance to the six-team CAA Tournament as the Hens lost a tie-breaker to Towson. The Hens, who missed the CAA Tournament for the first time in four seasons, will look to improve upon a 7-9-2 overall season record, the team's first losing campaign since 2010.
Following home scrimmages vs. Seton Hall on Aug. 13 and vs. La Salle on Aug. 17 at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium, the Blue Hens will open their 18-game regular season schedule Aug. 21 at Loyola (Md.) and will open CAA action Sept. 25 at the College of Charleston.
Market (Holland, Pa.) earned second team All-CAA honors in 2014 when she scored two goals. Parker (Eagleville, Pa.) started all 18 games on defense and helped the Hens post five shutouts.
