Delaware Picked Sixth in CAA Coaches Poll; Katie Hillman Named To CAA Preseason Team

RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team was picked sixth in the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Coaches Poll, the league announced on Monday.
College of Charleston, which captured the league's regular season title last year, was picked first with 55 points and four first place votes. James Madison and UNCW tied for second place with 51 points, while defending CAA Tournament champion Hofstra was selected fourth with 46 points. Towson came in fifth with 39 points, followed by the Blue Hens with 35 points. Northeastern was selected seventh with 21 points, while Elon and William & Mary tied for eighth with 13 points each.
Additionally, Blue Hen senior outside hitter Katie Hillman was named to the CAA Volleyball Preseason Team after earning second team all-league honors a year ago. Hillman, a native of Deerfield Beach, Fla. (Cardinal Gibbons HS), started all 32 matches last season, ranking sixth in the conference with 3.21 kills per set. She also ranked third on the Blue Hens with a .224 attack percentage, and was fifth with 57 blocks.
Hillman led Delaware with eight double-doubles during the campaign, reaching double digit kills in 20 matches and double figure digs in 11 contests. She posted a season-high 21 kills at James Madison, and added 20 kills and a season-high 17 digs vs. Charleston. Hillman is the team's active leader with 981 career kills, and needs just 19 more to become the 18th player in UD history to reach 1,000 for a career.
Bonnie KennyThe Blue Hens open their 2015 season at the UCF Invitational on Aug. 28-29, and play their first home match against Morgan State on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Bob Carpenter Center during the Delaware Invitational.
