Chandler Bryant, Katie Hillman, Ariel Shonk Named Delaware Volleyball Captains

Bryant, a middle hitter from Greensboro, N.C., will serve as a co-captain for the second consecutive season after sharing duties with Jill Meyers a year ago. Bryant started all 117 sets in 2014, leading the Blue Hens and ranking eighth in the CAA with a .281 attack percentage. She was fourth on the team with 245 kills, ranked second with 98 blocks, and posted a career-high 20 kills during a win at Northeastern on Oct. 3.
Hillman, an outside hitter from Deerfield Beach, Fla., also started all 32 matches a year ago, when she earned second team All-CAA accolades. She ranked sixth in the conference by averaging 3.21 kills per set, ranked third on the team with a .224 attack percentage, and was fifth with 57 blocks. A Preseason All-CAA honoree this season, Hillman led Delaware with eight double-doubles and reached double digit kills in 20 matches a year ago. She is the team's career leader with 981 kills, and needs just 19 more to become the 18th player in UD history to reach 1,000 for her career.
Shonk, a defensive specialist from Atlanta, Ga., appeared in 19 matches while making three starts during her 2014 campaign. She ranked sixth on the squad with 109 digs, including a season-high 13 during the five-set match against the College of Charleston on Oct. 31. Shonk earned third team All-CAA honors during her first two seasons, while her 4.76 digs per set average is the second highest mark in school history. She has recorded 1,341 career digs, and needs just 70 more to move into the school's career top 10 list.
Delaware opens its 2015 season on Friday, Aug. 28 when the Blue Hens face Southern Illinois at 10 a.m. and Central Florida at 7 p.m. on the first day of the UCF Invitational.
