Delaware Soccer Opens Season Friday at Loyola; Hosts Army West Point Sunday

Delaware, which returns 13 players with starting experience, was predicted to finish sixth in the CAA Coaches' Preseason Poll announced earlier this month. UD has already played two preseason exhibitions, falling to Seton Hall 1-0 on Aug. 13 and tying La Salle 0-0 on Aug. 17 in two home events.
“The scrimmages we've competed in have allowed us to look at different combinations on the field, and to integrate some new faces onto the field, said Grzenda. “We are very pleased with what we've seen and hope we can put everything together on Friday night and Sunday afternoon.”
It took overtime, but Delaware defeated Loyola 3-2 in the most recent meeting in 2013. That win came a year after a 1-0 loss to the Greyhounds in 2012.
“We are very excited to face a challenging non-conference schedule,” said Grzenda, whose team will be looking to improve upon last year's 1-5-2 road record. “We will use these games to help prepare us for another competitive and exciting CAA season.”
Among the Blue Hens' top players are returning preseason All-CAA picks Emily Market (two goals in 2014) and Maddy Parker. Other returning starters include top returning scorers Natalie Zelenky (team-high five goals in 2015), Nikki Adams (four goals), Elise Krause (four assists), and Maddie Brosler (two goals). Leading the defense are Parker, Alison Slark, and Michelle McEnroe along with goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos, who recorded a 1.30 goals against average and a .684 save percentage in nine starts a year ago.
