Delaware Kicks Off Fall Schedule at Saint Joseph?s Invitational

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team will return to the court for the 2015 campaign this weekend with play at the seventh annual Saint Joseph's Invitational, held at the SJU Tennis Complex.
The Blue Hens are just one of seven programs that will take part in four singles flights and to doubles flights over the course of three days. Action is slated to begin Friday at 2 p.m. while singles matches open Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
The tournament will conclude Sunday with the semifinals and finals of all six flights. All match schedules are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions and court availability.
Laura Travis, Delaware features a young roster for the coming season with two seniors, one junior, two sophomores and four freshmen and looks to build upon last year's 6-9 record. This season will mark Travis' 24th as the women's tennis head coach at her alma mater, where she currently holds an all-time career mark of 263-142 (.649).Key returners for the Hens include senior Danea Jonjić (Split Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences & Technical), junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and sophomore Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern). Over her four year career in a Delaware uniform, Jonjić has tallied 32 career victories while LaMachia notched seven in her first season after transferring to UD. Jonjić and Shuren led the Hens with 10 wins apiece last season.
In doubles action, Jonjić and Shuren guided Delaware with a 10-6 top-flight record during the 2014-15 slate.
