Hens Undefeated on First Day of SJU Women's Tennis Invitational

Day 1 Results
MERION STATION, Pa. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team opened the 2015 fall slate in tremendous fashion by going 5-0 in doubles action at the Saint Joseph's University Invitational.
In top-flight action, sophomore Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) paired with freshman Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) for an 8-3 victory over the Hawks' Sarah Contrata and Kristina Eisenbrand.
Sophomore Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) and freshman Annie Jaskulski (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) also defeated their opponent in Flight 1 with an 8-3 win versus George Washington's Allison Hansen and Victoria Kogan.
In the second flight, junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) teamed with freshman Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) to earn an 8-5 decision against Maureen Devlin and Arianne Polatnick from SJU.
Senior Danea Jonjić (Split, Croatia/Croatia Natural Sciences & Technical) and freshman Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) were the lone pair to compete in two doubles matches on the day.
The duo opened the afternoon with an 8-3 victory over La Salle's Alexandra Santerelli and Jade Smith. They followed with an 8-4 decision versus Bucknell's Lauren Fishbein and Mishi Papich.
“This was a great start to the season. The ladies really executed things that we have been working on in practice well. Tomorrow will help with measuring where we are individually in singles play and where we need to improve.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· All of Delaware's doubles teams advanced to Saturday's semifinal matches. With wins, the pairs will compete in Sunday's championship round.
· Singles play will also begin Saturday.
· Arielle Shuren and Danea Jonjić are slated to compete in the Singles Flight 1.
· Annie Jaskulski and Amanda Studnicki will participate in Singles Flight 2.
· Denny LaMachia and Sara Komer are scheduled for Singles Flight 3 action.
· Sarah Hall and Draga Sabotic will compete in Singles Flight 4.
