NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women's cross country team will open its 2015 home season when the Blue Hens host nearly 20 others teams for the annual Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park Saturday morning.
The women's six-kilometer race will get underway at 10 a.m. followed by the eight-kilometer men's race at 10:40 a.m.
Fans are reminded that the Delaware State Parks system has increased park entrance fees this year, including admission to White Clay Creek State Park. The new entrance fees are $4 for vehicles registered in-state and $8 for out-of-state vehicles.
Delaware will be among 19 teams competing in a meet that will also include men's and women's teams from the Delaware Track Club, Delaware Tech, Rowan, Rutgers-Newark, Seton Hall, Stockton, The College of New Jersey, Wesley, and Wilmington University as well as a women's team from St. Vincent's (Pa.) College.
The Blue Hens, who opened the season last Friday with a second place finish at the Lehigh Invitational, won the Delaware Invitational team title in 2014 led by individual champion Katrina Steenkamer. Delaware also recently captured the Delaware Invitational team title in 2012.
The Delaware Invitational is one of two home meets for the Blue Hens, who will also play host to the Delaware Blue & Gold Invitational on Oct. 10.
