Delaware Women's Golfers Finish Third at Diane Thomason Invitational

Delaware, which entered the day with a 599 score, carded a 308 on Sunday to finish third out of 12 teams with a three-round total of 907. Iowa captured its own tournament with an 888 score, while Rutgers placed second one shot ahead of the Blue Hens at 906. Harvard came in fourth place at 908, while South Dakota State rounded out the top five at 921.
UD has now finished either second or third in the team standings during each of its last six tournaments, dating back to the spring season.
Slane fired a five over par 77 during her final round on the par 72, 6,158-yard Finkbine Golf Course, ending the tournament in a tie for second place with a six over par score of 70-75-77-222. Slane and Michelle Xie of Harvard each finished at six over par, 10 shots behind Iowa's Jessica Ip, who easily earned medalist honors with a four under par score.
Slane has been UD's top finisher in both tournaments this fall, and has placed fifth or higher in five of her last seven invitationals.
Rachel Lee carded a four over par 76 on Sunday, as she tied for sixth place at the tournament with a 76-73-76-225, nine over par. Nathalie Filler fired a 77 during her final round, tying for 21st place with a 15 over par 82-72-77-231. Vitoria Teixeira tied for 29th place with a 17 over par 75-78-80-233, while Vimonthip Benjasupawan carded a 24 over par 86-76-78-240 to tie for 52nd place.
The Blue Hens will take the next two weekends off before competing in the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Course on Oct. 3-4.
