PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team will cap its stretch of 10 straight matches away from Newark on Tuesday when the Blue Hens head north to face Penn at 7 p.m. at The Palestra.
Delaware is 4-5 on the season and coming off an impressive showing at the Holly Young Invitational over the weekend, when the Blue Hens posted victories over New Hampshire and Boston College. Chandler Bryant and Alexa Swann each recorded 27 kills during the three matches as both players earned All-Tournament Team honors, while Swann committed just three errors to hit .407 during the weekend.
Julia Anderson averaged 9.00 assists at the invitational, while Ariel Shonk posted a 5.27 digs average. Shonk currently leads the CAA and ranks 15th in Division I in digs per set this season, while Anderson ranks third in the league in assists per set.
The Quakers carry a 4-3 mark into Tuesday's match, as Penn captured victories over Fairfield and Delaware State before falling to Towson at its home tournament over the weekend. Alexis Genske leads the team with 3.18 kills and 4.0 digs per set, while Ronnie Bither has recorded a 9.09 assist average.
Delaware holds a 15-10 all-time series advantage over Penn, as the teams will be meeting for the sixth consecutive year. The Blue Hens have taken three of the previous five matchups, including last year's three-set victory over the Quakers at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The match wraps up a stretch of 10 consecutive contests outside of Newark for the Blue Hens, the program's longest since 12 in a row during the 2007 campaign. UD finally opens its home season this weekend by taking on Morgan State, Loyola (Md.) and Sacred Heart in the Delaware Invitational.
