Gianniny Fires 66 as Blue Hens Finish Seventh at Navy Fall Classic

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Blue Hen sophomore Jack Gianniny fired a career-low 66 during Monday's round as the University of Delaware men's golf team finished in seventh place at the season-opening Navy Fall Classic.
UD posted a 584 team score on Monday, its lowest since a 279 during the first round of the Binghamton Fall Invitational on Oct. 5, 2014. The Blue Hens, who carded a 300 score on Sunday, moved up one spot to place seventh out of 10 teams with a two-round total of 584. Princeton captured the title with a 560 score, while Georgetown finished second at 567.
Gianniny fired a five under par 66 on the par 71, 6,528-yard Naval Academy Golf Course, beating his previous low round by three strokes and tying for the third lowest round in school history. Gianniny, who shot a 77 during Sunday's opening round, tied for 13th place in the individual standings at 77-66-143, one over par.
Fellow sophomore Kieran Purcell carded an even par 71 during his round on Monday, as he tied for 19th place with a four over par score of 75-71-146. Classmate Blaine Lafferty, who shot a 73 in his final round, also tied for 19th place at 74-72-146.
Senior Kyle Martin fired his second consecutive round of 75 to finish tied for 28th place with an eight over par 75-75-150, while freshman Mark Benevento carded a 13 over par 76-79-155 to tie for 43rd place in his Blue Hen debut.
Navy's Griffin Peters, who fired a 63 on Monday, was the tournament medalist with a nine under par score of 70-63-133.
The Blue Hens are back in action this weekend when they compete in the Cornell Invitational at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca, N.Y.
