NEWARK, Del. – Hens All-Access, the multimedia arm of the University of Delaware Athletics Department, recently unveiled plans to broadcast Saturday's men's soccer contest against Columbia in Spanish.
The broadcast's production will be completely in Spanish from the play-by-play to commercials to graphics. Additionally, the game will be broadcast for free, in high definition, and on mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets while an archive of the broadcast will be available on the Delaware Athletics YouTube page the following day. This is believed to be the first broadcast of its kind in HD and on the east coast.
“We are excited to bring this historic broadcast to Delaware men's soccer fans,” said University of Delaware Director of Athletics Eric Ziady. “We take great pride in the high-quality webstreams that Jimmy Smith and our multimedia staff have produced over the years and this is just one more way to reach out to an even larger audience – our Spanish-speaking students and fans. We hope this will open the door for even more innovative broadcasts in the future. iVamos Blue Hens!”
The Blue Hens will face the Lions at 7 p.m. with the broadcast beginning around 6:45 p.m.
“Our player's families and friends watch our broadcasts at all hours of the day depending on their location and we're excited to give them a product that celebrates their support,” commented Jimmy Smith, assistant athletics director of multimedia services. “This has been about a year in the making and we're ecstatic to see it come to fruition.”
Former Delaware standout and All-Colonial Athletic Association selection and current assistant coach Roberto Giménez will do play-by-play for the stream while Diego Ruiz will serve as color analyst. Hens All-Access correspondent Richie Raspa will provide pre-game insight.
Ian HennessyJunior All-American forward Guillermo Delgado continued, “Our involvement with the Spanish-speaking community has been very rewarding. We have coached local teams and interacted with Las Américas ASPIRA Academy, a local bilingual school, which has helped us promote Delaware soccer. The Spanish coverage of this game will reward the support that the Spanish community has brought these past years.”
Live video available at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, September 19:
