CULVER CITY, Calif. -- University of Delaware junior forward Natalie Zelenky, who scored two goals in the Blue Hens' 3-1 victory over George Washington on Sunday, has been named to the Top Drawer.com Soccer Team of the Week.
Zelenky, a pre-vet and animal biosciences major from Mechanicsburg, Pa. (Mechanicsburg High School), led Delaware to a 2-0 week as the Blue Hens (5-3) downed Princeton 1-0 on the road and George Washington 3-1 at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
Delaware takes a three-game winning streak into tonight's game at Saint Joseph's.
Zelenky was among 11 NCAA Division I players named to the TDS National Team of the Week and eight others on the honorable mention team. The team is selected each week during the season to recognize outstanding efforts at every position on the field.
She was joined on the team by GK Julie Eckel of Tennessee, D Kadeisha Buchanan of West Virginia, Brittany Basinger of Penn State, and Paige Nielson of North Carolina, M Danielle Rotheram of Cincinnati, Luca Lara of Arizona State, and Celina Jimenez of Alabama, and F Natalie Jacobs of Notre Dame, Lucielle Kozlov of Dartmouth, and Rachel Ugolik of Providence. Jacobs was named national Player of the Week.
Zelenky contributed to all three goals vs. George Washington as she scored a goal in each half and recorded the assist on a second half goal by Nikki Adams. She now has two multiple-goal games this season and three for her career. She leads the team and the Colonial Athletic Association with seven goals, the highest amount in a season at Delaware since Ali Miller had seven in 2012.
“Natalie has been playing excellent,” said Delaware head coach Grzenda. “I think she has the confidence at this point to put the ball in the net. I think the difference between this year and last year is just the sheer confidence and the will to want to score. Last year she found herself a little more of a role player and now I think she's taken that step forward in wanting to be a leader in putting the ball in the back of the net.”
