Coleman, who graduated from UD in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in sport management and a minor in coaching science, returns to her alma mater after spending the previous two seasons as a graduate manager and video coordinator at softball powerhouse Tennessee.
“I've very excited to have Rachel join the Delaware softball coaching staff,” Seneca said. “Her passion for the game is apparent in everything she does, and her time with a nationally-ranked program like Tennessee will prove invaluable. Rachel is a Blue Hen alum with many ties to the University, and she will be a tremendous asset for our student-athletes.”
Coleman helped the Vols advance to the NCAA Super Regionals during both of her years in Knoxville, while the 2015 squad competed in the Women's College World Series. Coleman assisted with practice, games and the program's daily operations duties, and also helped with recruiting visits. Additionally she recorded and broke down all practice and game film, and created weekly and yearly highlight videos for pregame and recruiting events.
“Rachel was a valuable member of our staff for the last two years,” said Tennessee co-head coach Karen Weekly. “She is bright and energetic and has a tremendous passion for the game. It's exciting that she will begin her collegiate coaching career close to home in an area she knows well.”
Prior to arriving in Knoxville, Coleman was a volunteer assistant coach during the 2013 campaign with the Kennesaw State program, where she assisted with practice, games and team travel.
“We at Kennesaw State are so very pleased for Rachel and are proud that our school was a part of her journey,” said former Kennesaw State head coach Scott Whitlock, a member of the NFCA Hall of Fame. “She has done things the 'right way.' She volunteered to get herself into the profession, and using hard work and dedication, she has shown that she belongs. We are excited for her opportunity at Delaware.”
Coleman also worked softball camps at Tennessee and Florida over the last two summers, and served as the junior varsity head coach at nearby Newark High School in 2012 while she was an undergraduate at Delaware. A National Fastpitch Coaches Association member, she also was a football operations intern and served a sports marketing internship from 2010-12 at UD.
