BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The University of Delaware women's cross country team opens its 2015 season on Friday when the Blue Hens take part in the Lehigh Invitational at the Goodman Cross Country Course.
Delaware, led by head coach Wendy McFarlane, will compete in the meet which begins at 6:15 p.m. and features the Blue Hens, DeSales, La Salle, Lehigh, LIU-Brooklyn, Moravian and Muhlenberg.
The Blue Hens return 11 letterwinners from last year's team that placed fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships and eighth in the ECAC Championships.
Delaware will need to replace 2015 team Most Valuable Player Katrina Steenkamer, who was the team's top finisher during all eight meets a year ago and placed 13th at the conference meet.
The Blue Hens will be led by junior Betsy Erlanger, who competed in six meets a year ago and placed second at both the Delaware Invitational and Blue & Gold Invitational. Sophomore Adrienne Fraczkowski participated in all eight events during her rookie campaign in 2014, when she finished 32nd at the CAA Championships.
Junior Gabby Alaimo and sophomore Liz McGroarty also both return after appearing in every meet last season, while senior Shannon Kelly is also back after placing 33rd at the 2014 CAA meet.
Following the season-opening meet at Lehigh, the Blue Hens return home to host the Delaware Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at White Clay Creek State Park.
