Hens Travel to Villanova for Saturday Matinee

NEWARK, Del. – After opening the season with two home dates, the University of Delaware men's' soccer squad will make the short trip to Villanova with a 1 p.m. matchup Saturday against the Wildcats at the Higgins Soccer Complex.

HEN SCRATCHINGS
· The Blue Hens are ranked No. 24 in the Soccer America Men's Preseason Top 25. Delaware has now been ranked nationally in three straight seasons and four of the last five.
· Junior All-American Guillermo Delgado leads the Hens with four points on two goals, a mark good for 13th nationally. He posted the game-winner against Central Arkansas.
· Guillermo Delgado is fourth in the UD record books with 65 career points and third all-time with 29 goals.
· Senior Joe Dipre is ninth in the NCAA with two assists.
· With 12 career assists, Joe Dipre is tied for eighth all-time in program history with John McCloskey (1975-78) and Roger Morley (1966-68).
· This season is the 90th overall in program history. In the previous 89 seasons, UD has compiled a record of 423-647-103 (.361) with three 10-plus-win seasons in the last four years.
SERIES INFORMATION
· Villanova holds an all-time advantage of 6-4 over the Blue Hens with contests dating back to 1973.
· The Wildcats have won five straight against Delaware with four consecutive shutouts.
· The Hens' last victory came with a 5-1 decision on Oct. 25, 1977 in Newark.
· Delaware's last win at Villanova was a 5-0 decision on Oct. 27, 1976.
· Tom Carlin (Arcadia '99, '02) enters his eighth season in charge of the Wildcats. He is 62-58-17 all-time at Villanova and holds a career mark of 161-81-26 including an earlier stint at his alma mater.
ABOUT VILLANOVA
The Wildcats are 2-0-0 to start the season with wins over Albany and Drexel. A team that finished 8-8-3 last season with a fifth place finish in the BIG EAST, Villanova features an experienced roster with 15 upperclassmen. Juniors Padraic McCullaugh and Max Kroschwitz have guided the Wildcats so far this year with six points on two goals and two assists apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Will Steiner, a BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honoree a year ago, has posted six saves through two games with three goals allowed.
