RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman forward Riley Curtin, who earned her first career start and played a huge role in the Blue Hens' dominating 6-1 victory over Brown on Sunday, has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Curtin, a biomedical engineering major from Hershey, Pa. (Hershey High School), scored a goal and dished out three assists as the Blue Hens (3-3) snapped a three-game losing streak by scoring its highest goal total in five years.
Curtin, who earlier this season was named to the University of Virginia Nike Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team, tallied her second goal of the season in the opening half to give Delaware a 2-0 lead. She also assisted on both goals by Natalie Zelenky as well as a second half score by Michelle Burnett.
Her three assists were the most ever by a freshman in Delaware women's soccer history and the most for any UD player since Caitlin Germain had three against George Mason during the 2008 season.
Delaware will continue action this week when the Blue Hens travel to Princeton Thursday for a 7 p.m. kickoff and return home to host George Washington on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
