Delaware to Host 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center has been chosen to host the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, as announced by the league Friday.
Additionally, James Madison will host the 2017 tournament while Drexel will welcome the 2018 tournament to Philadelphia. The specific dates will be announced at a later time for the four-day, nine-game event.
“We are excited to bring our showcase women's basketball championship back to campus to be played in front of our most loyal fans,” said CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager. “The annual site selections are designed to help promote women's basketball throughout the conference creating exciting experiences for our teams and fans. We've had a tremendous run at the Show Place Arena and look for that success to continue on campus.”
The CAA Women's Basketball Championship has been conducted at 10 different sites over the league's 31 years. The tournament was last held on campus in 2010 before moving to the Show Place Arena in 2011, where it has entertained fans for the last five seasons.
Tina Martin, who is currently in her 20th season as the head coach of the Blue Hens. “This tournament is a great opportunity for our outstanding fans to support CAA women basketball. Our facilities are outstanding and our support staff does an excellent job hosting tournaments. March Madness is a great time of year and what better way to be a part of it than hosting the CAA Tournament.”The Bob Carpenter Center is no stranger to hosting large-scale events as the “Bob” was a site for the First Round of the 2013 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. That season, the Blue Hens defeated West Virginia and North Carolina in front of a pair of raucous sellout crowds to advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. USA Women's Basketball
The Bob also served as the host a USA Women's Basketball Exhibition in 2014 in addition to the 2007 and 2008 CAA Women's Basketball Championships.
“The University of Delaware and the state of Delaware are excited about hosting our fellow CAA members to the UD campus and the First State for the 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championship,” said Dr. Matthew J. Robinson, Interim Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Delaware. “We plan on offering a first-class experience for the student athletes and coaches as well as their fans.”
Delaware is currently 10-8 on the year and 5-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Blue Hens return to the court Friday at James Madison before facing Drexel on Sunday.
