ELON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware women's soccer team posted a crucial 2-0 shutout victory at Elon on Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens remained in the hunt for a Colonial Athletic Association Tournament berth.
Delaware, which improved to 4-13 overall and 3-5 in league play, is currently tied for sixth place in the CAA standings with Towson as both the Blue Hens and Tigers have nine conference points. UD closes its regular season at Drexel next Sunday, while Towson has two league games remaining at Northeastern and Hofstra. The top six teams advance to the CAA Tournament, which begins on Sunday, Oct. 30.
"The girls played so well today after the disappointing loss on Friday," said Delaware head coach Scott Grzenda. "This weekend showed how well we can compete while setting ourselves up for the post-season with our game against Drexel."
Delaware opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Dani Kabat collected a pass from Nikki Adams and blasted a shot from 18 yards out into the top left corner of the goal. The Blue Hens then added an insurance tally in the 66th minute when Natalie Zelenky fed Madison Brosler, who lofted a shot from 18 yards out over Elon keeper Katelyn Fowler.
Elon (7-8-2, 2-4-1 CAA) held a 14-4 shot advantage over the Blue Hens, but managed to put only two shots on net. UD goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos needed to make just two saves to post her second shutout of the season.
Delaware wraps up its regular season next Sunday with its match at Drexel beginning at 1 p.m. at Vidas Field in Philadelphia.

• Brosler posted her fourth goal of the season, second most on the team
• Kabat's goal was her third of the year, third most on the squad
