CoSIDA Release
GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the fourth straight season, Delaware graduate student Ben Sampson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) earned CoSIDA Academic All-District® honors, as announced Thursday by the organization.
Following a medical redshirt, Sampson decided to return to the classroom to utilize his fifth year of eligibility this fall to pursue a Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a concentration in signal processing, communications and controls. The 2014 CAA Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® selection, he graduated summa cum laude and top of his class this past spring with a 3.989 cumulative GPA. His GPA was the highest amongst all NCAA Division I District 2 selections.
Ian HennessySampson, a two-time team captain, displays a similar hallmark leadership on the field, in the classroom and in the community. He has remained a mainstay on the pitch for Delaware and to date has started 79 of 80 games played in a Blue Hens uniform while rarely seeing less than 90 minutes played in a contest. For his career, Sampson has garnered 10 goals and four assists for 24 points.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must carry a 3.3 or better GPA, be a starter or key reserve and have at least sophomore standing. District 2 includes all NCAA Division I schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia. The teams are selected by a vote of sports information directors. All first-team selections are now eligible for Academic All-American accolades, which will be announced in late November.
