ELON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team will look to continue its second half surge as the Blue Hens head to Elon for a 2 p.m. match with the Phoenix on Sunday at Alumni Gym.
Delaware has won four of its last five matches to improve to 10-14 overall and 4-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association, including Wednesday's impressive three-set road victory at Towson. The Blue Hens are currently tied with UNCW for sixth place in the league standings. The top six teams advance to the CAA Tournament held Nov. 17-20 in Wilmington, N.C.
Elon is 16-11 overall and 3-8 in the league, and has dropped seven of its last eight matches. The Phoenix currently sits in eighth place in the CAA standings, but is just a game behind the Blue Hens and Seahawks.
UD outside hitter Autumn Jenkins led the Blue Hens over Towson with team-highs of 16 kills and 13 digs, while fellow senior Lauren Talley added a career-high 12 kills and classmate Alexa Swann contributed nine. Delaware hit .312 as a team during the win, its higest attack percentage since the season-opening win over Coppin State. Erin Layne handed out 36 assists while Taylor Hollingsworth posted 12 digs, as Towson suffered its first three-set loss since September, 2014.
Kam Terry leads Elon with 3.24 kills per set, while Sydel Curry ranks second in the league with a 10.30 assists average and Maddie Jaudon is sixth with 4.26 digs per set.
Delaware won the first four meetings between the schools during Elon's first two years in the league, but the Phoenix posted a five-set win over the Blue Hens on Oct. 1 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
