RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware freshman Fede Prieto (Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain/IES Carmen Conde/Mostoles CF) was named the CAA's Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league Monday.
The midfielder more than doubled his season goal total with three goals in two conference games against Drexel and Hofstra. Prieto singlehandedly led the Blue Hens to a 2-0 win over the Dragons in Philadelphia with a season-high two tallies.
In Saturday's first place battle with the Pride, he scored the team's lone goal as the Delaware dropped its first CAA contest of the season.
Ian HennessyPrieto is currently second on the team with five goals and 10 points. He is the first Delaware freshman to reach at least five goals in a season since seniors Guillermo Delgado (Tres Cantos, Spain/Jose Luis Sampedro) and Jaime Martinez (Madrid, Spain/American School of Madrid) posted 15 and five, respectively, in 2013.
William & Mary's Antonio Bustamante collected CAA Player of the Week honors while Hofstra's Luke Brown shared Rookie of the Week accolades with Prieto.
The Blue Hens return to the pitch this Wednesday as Delaware travels to Philadelphia for a 7 p.m. matchup at Penn for their lone contest of the week.
