The Blue Hens signed three to National Letters of Intent in Erin Antosh, Kate Cain and Lizzie Oleary, all of whom will arrive on campus next summer.
“This freshman class is as good as we've had in a number of years due to what they bring to the table,” remarked Martin, who is in her 21st season at the helm of the Blue Hens. “We need the rebounding and size inside and the last two years, we've been rather small. We've had great athletes, but we haven't been big. We really wanted to make an effort to bring back a big post player who has the ability to score on the block like Kate Cain and a post player who has some size and strength like Erin Antosh and then someone like Lizzie Oleary who can do it all. Our front line will definitely look different and be enhanced with these three ladies coming in next season. I'm really excited about this class because their size and talents are something we need in our program.”
Below are biographies on each of the three incoming Blue Hens in addition to comments from Martin.
ERIN ANTOSH | Center/Forward | Townsend, Mass. (Lawrence Academy/MCW Starz)
Entering her senior campaign, Antosh is a three-time league All-Star that also earned two ISL All-League Awards as a sophomore and junior under head coach Donna Mastrangelo. The 6-3 center/forward is also a two-time team MVP while guiding her squads to an overall mark of 62-14 with three semifinals appearances. As a member of the MCW Starz AAU team, Antosh collected Gym Rat All-Star (2013) and Rose Classic All-Star (2016) honors while picking up Deep South Classic (2015), Gym Rat (2015), Nashville TBC (2015) and Zero Gravity (2015) Championships. In the classroom, Antosh garnered Honor Roll accolades during her freshman and sophomore years while picking up High Honors as a junior. The daughter of Janet Antosh and Kevin Antosh, Erin intends on majoring in communications with a minor in coaching with the goals of working in sports broadcasting following her playing career.
“Erin runs the floor really well at 6-3 and she can play the four or five positions. She is physical enough that she can play the five, but she loves to shoot the 3-point basket. Erin's not afraid to mix it up and she's a physical kind of player.” – Tina Martin
KATE CAIN | Center/Forward | Middletown, N.Y. (Pine Bush HS/Hudson Valley Elite)
A 6-5, low post player, Cain is ranked within the Top 100 of multiple recruiting services. Entering her fifth season with the Pine Bush varsity squad, Cain is a 1,000 point scorer and averages 15.8 points per game under head coach Bill Lacouara. This past season, she led the PBHS volleyball team to the New York State Finals. Cain is a member of the National Honors Society and Pine Bush Yearbook committee while also playing for the Hudson Valley Elite AAU Basketball program. Cain comes from an athletic family as her father, Tim, graduated as the all-time leading scorer in Manhattan College basketball history and her mother played basketball at Fairfield and then professionally in Ireland. Her brother, John, is a pitcher at Lafayette. Kate has goals of majoring in business at the University of Delaware.
“Kate has a really nice touch around the rim and has a really good feel for where the defense is around her. She's your traditional post player in that she pretty much always has her back to the basket, but she can step out and hit the 15 to 17-foot jump shots. I'm really excited about Kate as she's a young lady that's going to make a difference in our program.” – Tina Martin
LIZZIE OLEARY | Forward | Abington, Pa. (Abington Senior HS/Philadelphia Comets)
A throwback, blue-collar worker, Oleary possesses a high basketball IQ. In two seasons at Abington Senior High School under head coach Dan Marsh, the 6-2 Oleary has registered nearly 700 points, 550 rebounds and 150 blocked shots. A two-time First Team All-League honoree, Oleary is also a member of the National Honors Society. The daughter of Tim and Martha Oleary, Lizzie plans on majoring in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management with aspirations of working in entertainment or resort marketing.
“Lizzie screens really well, shoots the ball really well and is the best passer of all of our potential post players. I cannot say enough about how Lizzie understands basketball and right away we fell in love with her game. She will be a welcome addition to our front line as well as she's a playmaker and a very good decision maker.” – Tina Martin
