Defense Shines as Blue Hens Remain Unbeaten with 43-40 Triumph Over St. Bonaventure

exceptional tonight. We struggled to hit open shots and started to press on offense and then got stagnant. But the kids listened to what we were telling them and came through. it was a grind it out kind of game but we are 3-0 so lets move on."The 40 points were the lowest allowed by Delaware since a 70-38 win over Georgia State on Jan. 31, 2013.
Senior Erika Brown led the Blue Hens with a game-high 12 points while sophomore Nicole Enabosi (at left) recorded her first double-double of the season and seventh of her young career with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
St. Bonaventure (1-3), which advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago and won a first round game, hit just 2 of 10 shots in the first quarter and 2 of 11 in the second to fall behind 14-10 at the half. The Bonnies, who got 11 points from Mariah Ruff and six points and 10 rebounds from Gabby Richmond. finished the night hitting just 15 of 50 shots from the field (.300) and only 5 of 20 from three-point range.
Delaware led by as many as 10 points in the final quarter before St. Bonvaventure made a furious comeback and nearly won the game. Delaware still led by nine at 41-32 with 3:01 gremainin but the Bonnies reeled off eight straight points, including two three-pointers by Ruff, and pulled to within 41-40.
The Bonnies had the chance to win with possession of the ball and down by one but a jumper in the lane by Matea Britvar with two seconds left was off the mark and Enabosi grabbed the rebound. Enabosi was fouled and then calmly sank two free throws to preserve the win.
HEN SCRATCHINGS
• Delaware is now 3-0 all-time vs. St. Bonaventure, including wins in November of 2011 and November of 2012
• Delaware held the lead at halftime but their 14 points were tied for the fourth lowest total ever in a game at the BCC
• The Blue Hens have not started a season 3-0 since the 2010-11 Elena Delle Donne led team went 31-2 after a 10-0 start
• Delaware will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 vs. Princeton at 7 p.m.
