Blue Hens Close Out Home Schedule This Weekend vs. Northeastern, Hofstra

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team closes out the home portion of its 2016 season this weekend when the Blue Hens host Northeastern and Hofstra at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware will take on the Huskies on Friday at 7 p.m. and Hofstra on Sunday at 1 p.m., with live video and live stats available for both matches.
The Blue Hens have won five of their last six matches, including three straight on the road, to improve to 11-14 overall and 5-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware now sits in sixth place in the league standings with four matches to play, hoping to qualify for the six-team CAA Tournament held Nov. 17-20 in Wilmington, N.C.
UD won its third consecutive contest with a four-set triumph Sunday at Elon, as Alexa Swann and Maria Bellinger each led the way with 16 kills. Autumn Jenkins has reached double figure kills in each of the last six matches, recording five double-doubles in that span, and leads the Blue Hens with 247 kills on the year. Bellinger paces the squad with a 2.65 kills average, while Swann leads the team and ranks eighth in the CAA with a .297 attack percentage.
Setter Erin Layne is averaging 41.8 assists over the last six contests, while Taylor Hollingsworth's 4.87 digs average is good for third in the league.
Northeastern enters Friday's match with a 20-7 overall record, and the Huskies lead the conference with a 10-3 league mark. NU has won two straight matches after posting home victories over Charleston and UNCW last weekend. Caterina Rosander leads the CAA with a .362 hitting percentage and ranks third with 1.08 blocks per set, while Kristen Walding is third in the league with a 9.76 assists average and Gabrielle Eyl ranks second by averaging 5.31 digs per set.
Hofstra carries a 19-7 record into its match on Friday at Towson, and the Pride sits in second place in the conference standings with a 9-4 record. Hofstra wrapped up its home schedule last week by posting wins over Northeastern, UNCW and Charleston in Hempstead. Michela Rucli currently ranks second in the CAA with a .360 hitting percentage for the Pride, while Laura Masciullo is third with 3.48 kills per set and Hannah Klemm ranks fifth with an 8.35 assists average.
Delaware is looking to avenge a pair of three-set road losses in Hempstead and Boston last month. The Blue Hens hold a slim 24-23 all-time advantage over the Huskies, while Hofstra leads the series over UD 50-19 with five straight wins in the series.
Friday will be Military and First Responders Appreciation Night, featuring complimentary tickets for military, police, fire, and EMS personnel (current, former, veteran, and retired). Additional tickets for family and friends may be purchased for just $2 per person. Tickets will be available at the door with an applicable military or employer ID.
Sunday will be the Blue Hens' Senior Day, as seniors Julia Anderson, Taylor Hollingsworth, Autumn Jenkins, Erin Layne, Alexa Swann and Lauren Talley will be honored in a ceremony prior to playing their final match at the BCC.
