Delaware Linebacker Troy Reeder Named CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week

NEWARK, Del. -- Thanks to a dominating effort in which he helped force three turnovers and allow just 15 total yards in the second half of a 33-17 win over Albany last Saturday, University of Delaware sophomore linebacker Troy Reeder has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Football Defensive Player of the Week.
Reeder, a 6-2, 235 finance major from Hockessin, Del. (Salesianum School), was also selected as the College Sports Madness National Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the STATS Inc. National Defensive Player of the Week Honor Roll.
Reeder, a first-year transfer from Penn State, collected five tackles and played a role in three forced turnovers. He intercepted his second pass of the season in the first half, forced two fumbles, and recovered another fumble that he forced. Delaware allowed just 236 total yards and seven first downs for the game but allowed a paltry 15 yards and one first down during the entire second half as Delaware pulled away for its seconds straight win. The Hens forced five turnovers overall.
Reeder now ranks second on the team with 54 tackles and is tied for the team lead in forced fumbles (2) and interceptions (2).
He becomes the second Delaware player to be honored by the CAA this season after junior running back Wes Hills was recognized as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week for his play in the Oct. 8 game vs. Maine. Reeder becomes the first UD player to earn CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors since current Atlanta Falcons linebacker Paul Worrilow was honored twice back in the 2012 campaign.
Delaware (4-5, 2-4 CAA) returns to action this Saturday when the Blue Hens travel to No. 8 ranked Richmond (7-2, 4-2 CAA) for a 3:30 p.m. battle in Richmond, Va.
