Tina Martin. “They are an NCAA calibre team and they pressed us really well. They have a lot of strong veteran players and have great leadership. They come at you really hard and we have some guards who panicked at times. We have to get better at handling pressure and keeping our composure. You can't give the ball away 20 times and expect to win, I don't care who the opponent is. That was our Achilles heal today.”Delaware came out strong in the opening minutes as senior forward Hannah Jardine knocked down consecutive three-pointers in a span of 32 seconds and Enabosi hit a pair of free throws for an 8-2 lead and the Hens added a three-point play by Chatman to go up 13-7 with 5:20 left in the opening stanza. But Army tore off on a 17-0 run to end the stanza and take a 23-13 lead.
The Hens settled down and outscored the Black Knights in the second quarter but went into the break trailing 37-28. Army continued to take control in the second half as the Black Knights scored the first seven points of the third quarter to increase the lead to 44-28. Delaware never got closer than 14 points the rest of the day.
Delaware will now take nine days off for exams and will return to action on Dec. 21 at home against Hartford at the Bob Carpenter Center.
“We have the break coming up so we will work on taking care of the ball and running our offense,” said Martin, who will go for career win 399 against Hartford. “Hopefully we will have a better result next time out.”
