LAST TIME OUT
Up by one at halftime, Delaware posted a solid second half of action early Friday evening as the Blue Hens opened 2016 with a 10-6 victory over the Hoyas at Georgetown's Cooper Field. In total, the Hens (1-0) had eight different players tally a goal while Casey Lyons led the squad with four points on two goals and two assists. Kirsten Hale tied a career-high with two goals in addition to picking up two groundballs and a draw control. Taylor Carpentier earned the win in her Blue Hens debut in the cage after recording eight saves.
HEN SCRATCHINGS 🐔
· Delaware has won two straight home openers.
· The Blue Hens are 31-30 all-time at Delaware Stadium since their first game there in 2011.
· With four points at Georgetown, Casey Lyons moved into a tie for 23rd in program history with 118 points (78g, 40a) alongside Courtney Aburn (2007-10).
· Shannon Hawley is nearing the 100-career point mark and currently sits with 95 points on 77 goals and 18 assists. She will be the 31st player in the Delaware record books to reach the century mark.
· Dating to last season, Jamie Schwartz has tallied at least one point in eight straight games and at least one goal in six consecutive.
· Shannon Hawley and Kirsten Hale also extended their points/goal streaks to four.
SERIES INFORMATION
· The Blue Hens and Colonials meet Tuesday for just the third time in program history.
· Delaware currently leads the series matchup, 2-0, including a 1-0 mark at Delaware Stadium.
· Last season, seven players tallied points as the Hens cruised to a 15-4 victory in Newark. Shannon Hawley collected a career-high six points on four assists and two goals in the win.
· The Colonials begin their second season under head coach Tracy Coyne (Ohio '83) during the 2016 campaign. The 2006 NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year has over 25 years of coaching experience and has compiled 271 career victories.
· Prior to returning to Delaware in 2010, Linville completed a five-year tenure as an assistant coach at Notre Dame under Coyne.
ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON
The Colonials are coming off of a season in which they posted a 6-10 mark while going 4-4 in Atlantic 10 action. Despite graduating seven seniors last spring, GW returns an experienced roster that features eight juniors, seven seniors and a graduate student. Bailey Forcier had a breakout sophomore season last year and ranked second on the team with 24 goals while leading the Colonials with 24 draw controls in her first season as a starter. Junior Erin Long and sophomore Adele Wise will compete for the starting goalkeeping job.
