Blue Hens Head Back To Miami To Compete in FIU Felsberg Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. -- The University of Delaware softball team will head back to Florida International University for the second consecutive weekend as the Blue Hens will again play six games at the FIU Felsberg Invitational.
The Blue Hens will play six games at the tournament, after going 3-3 during the FIU Panther Invitational last weekend. Delaware takes on Siena at 11 a.m. and Central Connecticut at 2 p.m. on Friday, before facing Siena at 1:30 p.m. and FIU at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
UD concludes play at the tournament on Sunday when the Blue Hens battle Central Connecticut at 10 a.m. and again at 3 p.m.
Delaware freshman Anna Steinmetz paced the Blue Hens last weekend with a .500 batting average, four home runs and 10 RBI during the first games of her UD career to earn CAA Rookie of the Week honors, while Mattie Nuccio also hit .500 during the invitational.
Mariah Kondravy posted a .476 average with a team-high 10 hits, while Giovanna Kolofer batted .313 and Leanna Gearhart led the team with five runs scored.
Kiersten Coffman went 2-2 with a 2.13 earned run average in the circle for Delaware, while Jordan Cargile posted a 2.47 ERA and Carolyn Szymanski picked up one victory.
Siena opened its 2016 season by going 2-3 at the Eastern Michigan Invitational last weekend, with victories over UMass Lowell and Providence. Brooke Taylor batted .455 with a double and a home run for Siena, while three other Saints added three hits during the tournament.
Central Connecticut will be opening its season this weekend, looking to repeat at Northeast Conference champions. The Blue Devils went 31-14 a year ago, and were picked fourth in the league's preseason poll. CCSU returns 12 players from the 2015 squad, including Tori Constantin who is the team's top returnee with a .273 batting average and five home runs.
FIU is 8-2 on the year, and split a pair of one-run games with Delaware last weekend. Stephanie Texeira is hitting .481 with a team-high four home runs for the Panthers, while Ashley Leon is batting .469 and Ashley Belans has a .467 average along with a team-leading 12 RBI. Abby Summers is 3-0 with a 1.03 earned run average for FIU, while Hunter Schart is 1-1 with a 1.27 ERA.
