Delaware Defeats Howard, 5-2, for Fifth Straight Triumph

ELKTON, Md. – The Blue Hens added to their longest winning streak since 2012 Saturday evening with a 5-2 victory over Howard at Elkton Indoor Tennis.
Delaware, which has now picked up five consecutive victories, swept the team doubles point for the third time this season to open the evening.
Freshman Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) earned the first singles victory of the night with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Sajela Harlow in the fourth flight.
Junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) followed with her third straight singles win by coming from behind to defeat Jessica Josiah, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 in the No. 2 spot.
Freshman Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) clinched the match for the Blue Hens (5-1) in No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Christina Joynes.
In the third slot, freshman Annie Jaskulski (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) notched her fifth consecutive win in commanding fashion by defeating Nicole Hutchinson, 6-0, 6-3.
“This was another hard-fought match and in the end we pulled out the win. This team is learning so much each and every time they compete, and that is exactly what this young squad needs.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· The Blue Hens have won two straight over Howard.
· Delaware is 60-51 in singles action and 27-21 in doubles play this season.
· Sara Komer and Denny LaMachia each picked up their 10th singles wins of the year.
