BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Blue Hens picked up a solid performance from all competitors Wednesday evening as Delaware defeated Lehigh, 5-2, at the Lewis Tennis Center.
Freshmen Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) and Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) collected the first win of the night with a 6-3 decision over Cassidy Cruz and Briana Maravich in No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) and junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) followed with a 6-4 victory in the top flight to clinch the team doubles point.
Freshman Annie Jaskulski (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) collected UD's first singles win by defeating Cruz, 6-3, 6-1, in the third spot.
Komer then earned a 7-5, 6-0 victory versus Briana Maravich in No. 4 singles while Studnicki defeated Christiana Auyeung, 7-6 (1), 2-6, 6-4, in the No. 1 slot.
Freshman Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) secured the team victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Abby Duddy in the sixth flight.
The Blue Hens have won two straight to move to 2-1 on the year while Lehigh opens its spring season with a 0-1 record.
“This was a hard fought match that was closer than the score shows. We embraced the big moments against a deep and talented Lehigh team.”
HEN SCRATCHINGS
· Delaware has won 10 straight over Lehigh since 2007.
· Amanda Studnicki is the third active Blue Hens player to reach 20 career doubles victories.
· The Blue Hens are 48-45 in singles action and 21-18 in doubles play this season.
