STORY LINE
While Delaware will be looking to continue the momentum from its historic 6-5 win at Manhattan last Tuesday, Binghamton will be looking to capture its first victory of the season as the teams square off in a non-league class Saturday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Binghamton will be playing in its home opener while Delaware plays its second of four straight road games.
HEN SCRATCHINGS
• Delaware will be looking to post back-to-back victories for the first time since a four-game win streak in 2014 (wins over Mt. St. Mary's, Villanova, Lafayette, and Binghamton)
• A win by Delaware would give Shillinglaw 301 career wins at Delaware and give him the most wins ever by one coach at one school in NCAA Division I history
• Redshirt freshman Andrew Romagnoli is this week's Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week after scoring a UD freshman record-tying six goals in the 14-6 win over VMI. Romagnoli has eight goals in the last three games
• Romagnoli and junior Paul Major have each scored a point in four straight games
• Delaware has won the faceoff battle in each of the last six games since going 7 for 22 in the season opener vs. Bucknell
• Delaware is led offensively by Major (10 goals, 8 assists), Romagnoli (9-3), and senior midfielder and co-captain Steve DeLargy (4-5)
SERIES INFORMATION
Delaware and Binghamton square off for just the fourth time today with Binghamton leading by a 2-1 margin with all three games decided by four goals or less. Binghamton won 11-7 last year at Delaware Stadium as BU broke a late second quarter tie to take the lead into halftime and then outscored Delaware 4-1 in the pivotal third period on the way to the victory. The Bearcats downed Delaware 9-8 at Delaware Stadium in 2013 as Tyler Perrelle scored the game-winner with 19 seconds left to complete the comeback. The Hens knocked off the Bearcats 10-9 in 2014 when Brian Kormondy scored as time expired at Vestal, N.Y.
THE COACHES
• Bob Shillinglaw (North Carolina '74) is in his 38th season at Delaware (300-290) and his 41st season overall (324-307) as a head coach. He has coached more games (631) than any coach in the history of college lacrosse. Overall, his 324 career wins ranks No. 5 among active NCAA I head coaches. He has led Delaware to six NCAA Tournament appearances and 15 league titles during his tenure and is a two-time USILA national Coach of the Year.
• Scott Nelson (North Carolina State '82) is 20-38 in his fifth season at Binghamton and is 251-148 in his 29th season overall as a head coach. He was the 2014 America East Conference Co-Coach of the Year.
