UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – James Madison held Delaware to just two offensive boards and a season-low 30 rebounds Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens closed their season with a 68-47 loss to the Dukes in the CAA Semifinals and the Show Place Arena.
JMU jumped out to the 18-12 lead in the first quarter and held the 36-20 advantage at the halftime break. The Dukes led by as much as 24 with a score of 57-33 in the third quarter.
Freshman Nicole Enabosi (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) guided the Hens with 17 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Junior Erika Brown (at left; Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) added 15 points and four rebounds for UD.
CAA Player of the Year and JMU senior Jazmon Gwathmey led all players with 25 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field while Angela Mickens dished out a CAA Tournament record 12 assists. With the win, the Dukes (26-5) advance to play Drexel in the CAA finals Saturday at 4 p.m.
“JMU played like the two-time champion that they are. They set the tone and once they get a lead, it's hard to make a comeback. They did not play well yesterday and they came out looking to shoot. We needed to try to keep pace with them and we had a tough time getting the ball inside. We struggled to follow our game plan. They're the best team in the league. They have a lot of great senior leadership and they played like it today.”
Junior Erika Brown
“Defense was a huge key today. We weren't able to get back in transition and rotate like we should have. When they drove or got it in to the posts, we didn't drop, and that was a big key. The offseason is all about getting better and I know we'll all be working hard in this offseason to give everyone a run.”
Freshman Nicole Enabosi
“We needed better rebounding and defense. We didn't do what we were suppose to do in those two categories for the majority of the game.”
