OCEANSIDE, N.Y. – Delaware had its most successful date on the court this season, but the outcome was not as favorable as the Hens fell to Hofstra, 4-3, at Point Set Indoor Tennis.
The Pride (5-2, 1-0 CAA) collected wins in the first and second doubles flights to pick up the team point.
Hofstra then downed Delaware (0-9, 0-2 CAA) in the first three completed singles matches before the Blue Hens rattled off three wins of their own.
Alex Sweet (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), sophomore Colin Wong (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia/SMK Kota Kemuning) and freshman Venkatesh Ramkumar (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) all earned their first dual singles victories of the season.Ramkumar notched Delaware's first win by battling Yahn Gawrit in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, in the third flight.
Wong followed with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Zachary Chang in No. 5 singles while Sweet posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Leonardo Pires in the sixth spot.
