Blue Hen Catcher Anna Steinmetz Earns Third CAA Softball Rookie of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman catcher Anna Steinmetz was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week on Monday, earning the award for the third time this season.
Steinmetz (Glen Mills, Pa./West Chester Bayard Rustin) batted .313 during the Blue Hens' five games last week, leading the team with six RBI and two homers while tying for third on the squad with five runs scored.
Steinmetz belted a two-run homer during UD's 5-0 shutout of Charleston on Friday, before adding a single and two RBI in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. She closed the series by going 3 for 5 with another two-run shot and scored two runs in the nightcap against the Cougars.
Steinmetz has started all 27 games for the Blue Hens this season, batting .341 and ranking second in the league with seven home runs. She also leads the team with 22 RBI on the year, while ranking second with six doubles and 12 runs scored.
Steinmetz and the Blue Hens (15-12, 1-2 CAA) return to action on Wednesday when they head to Baltimore for a 3 p.m. doubleheader with Morgan State.
