ANNAPOLIS, Md. – It came down to the wire, but in the end Navy pulled out the 4-3 victory over Delaware at Tose Family Tennis Center Sunday morning.
The loss was the first for the Blue Hens (6-2) in more than a month after stringing together six straight wins.
Delaware started the morning ahead after collecting the team doubles point. Sophomore Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) and junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) paired for a 6-4 victory over Sam Droop and Amanda Keller in No. 1 doubles.
In the second flight, freshmen Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) picked up the 6-0 decision against Anastasia Kondrasov and Audrey Channell.
Studnicki and LaMachia continued their successes into singles play as the duo each logged wins in their respective flights.
In the top flight, Studnicki defeated Keller, 6-1, 7-5 while LaMachia earned the 7-6 (8), 6-3) victory over Claudia Mackenzie in the second spot.
“We gave it all we had and came oh so close, but credit goes to Navy for their depth and perseverance. We have some things we can take away from this match and work on in practice, but overall I'm very proud of the effort this team produced today.”
