ELKTON, Md. – Less than a week after snapping a six-game winning streak, Delaware rebounded with a 7-0 victory against Longwood at Elkton Indoor Tennis Saturday evening.
The Blue Hens (7-2) opened the night in convincing fashion by sweeping the doubles point by scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1.
Freshman Annie Jaskulski (Wilmington, Del./Friends) collected the first singles win, and her 10th of the season, by defeating Isis Gill-Reid, 6-3, 6-2, in the third flight.
Classmate Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) followed with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Paloma Alatorre in No. 4 singles.
Junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) clinched the match by posting her team-leading sixth straight victory of the season in comeback fashion with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win versus Anna Pelak in the second spot.
Sophomore Amanda Studnicki (Normal, Ill./Normal West) also earned her 10th win of the season in top-flight singles by defeating Fallon Burger, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8.
In the fifth flight, freshman Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) collected the 6-2, 6-2 decision over Mason Thomas while sophomore Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) earned her first dual match win of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 score against Maria Coronel in the sixth spot.
“This was another great competition against a terrific Longwood squad. The matches today were much closer than the scores indicate. Our doubles teams executed well and I'm very proud of Amanda and Denny, who both lost the second set and were able to regain the momentum to take the third set tiebreakers.”
