NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware softball team returns home this weekend as the Blue Hens host Drexel in a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at the UD Softball Stadium.
The Blue Hens and Dragons are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday, with action on both days beginning at 12 noon.
Delaware is 17-12 overall on the season, and the Blue Hens are 1-2 in the CAA after dropping their league-opening series last weekend to Charleston. Drexel enters the series with a 15-15 mark, while the Dragons were swept in their first conference series at Elon.
UD is coming off a doubleheader sweep at Morgan State on Wednesday, as eight different Blue Hens recorded multiple hits on the day. Mariah Kondravy led the way with five hits including two doubles and a homer, while Gabby Klecko and Leanna Gearhart added four hits apiece. Gearhart currently leads the CAA with 21 stolen bases, six more than any other player in the league and two shy of the UD single season record.
Blue Hen pitchers Kiersten Coffman and Carolyn Szymanski each posted impressive performances at Morgan State, as Coffman set the school record by striking out 17 batters before Szymanski fired a one-hit shutout.
Paula Ueno leads Drexel with a .379 batting average, 36 hits, 14 runs scored and 19 RBI this season, while Kimberly Chan is hitting .357 and Baeley Reed brings a .326 average into the series. Taylor L. Lee is 5-5 with a 4.18 ERA for the Dragons, while Tara Konopka has won a team-high six games in the circle.
Delaware leads the all-time series with Drexel, 42-40-1, and the teams split a doubleheader last season in Newark.
