BALTIMORE, Md. – Delaware collected its first sweep since early 2014 Thursday afternoon as the Blue Hens defeated Coppin State, 7-0, at the CSU Tennis Complex.
UD (2-12) picked up the team doubles point with victories in the second and third flights to hold the advantage over the Eagles (0-12) going into singles play.
Junior co-captain Tyler Flematti (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) paired with sophomore Colin Wong (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia/SMK Kota Kemuning) for a 6-0 decision over Zaipo Oula and Ross Olexa in the No. 2 spot.
Alex Sweet (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) and Tim Puterio (Kingston, R.I./South Kingstown) defeated Gavin Lewis and Andres Diaz, 7-5.In top flight singles action, Flematti registered a 6-0, 6-0 score over Gabriel Franca.
Freshman Blaise Casselbury (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) came from behind to knock off Christian Duchnak, 5-7, 7-6 (2), 10-5 in No. 2 singles while Wong logged his third straight win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Oula in the third slot.
Sweet followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win versus Olexa in the fourth flight while junior Roy Cheng (Shatin, Hong Kong/Sentinel Secondary) also came from behind for his first victory of the season by defeating Diaz, 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.
Puterio rounded out the action in the sixth flight with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Lewis.
· Venkatesh Ramkumar did not compete Thursday due to class scheduling.
· The last time Delaware registered a 7-0 score over an opponent came on January 26, 2014 against Howard.
