RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware concluded its spring break swing Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 loss at the hands of UNCW at VCU's Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The Seahawks (8-6, 3-2 CAA) kicked off play by sweeping the team doubles point with 6-4 decisions in all three matches.
In singles action, freshman Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) was the lone Blue Hen to tally a win by defeating Thai Thompson, 6-1, 6-4 in the sixth flight.
Classmate Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) came from behind to force a three-set match against Laura Gomez in the fourth slot, but Gomez picked up the win by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Fellow freshman Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) came close for the second straight match in No. 5 singles before falling, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) to Sabrina Barisano.
The loss is the third straight for Delaware, who falls to 8-6 on the year and 0-4 in league play.
“This was another tough CAA opponent. We gained a lot of experience this week against three very strong teams, but we have to keep our chin up and rebound this coming week.”
