Delaware Falters in 4-3 CAA Match at Towson

TOWSON, Md. – It came down to the very last match Friday afternoon as Towson defeated Delaware, 4-3, at the Towson Center Courts.
The Blue Hens (8-7, 0-5 CAA) earned the team doubles point following wins in the second and third flights.
Freshmen Sara Komer (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Draga Sabotic (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) paired for the first decision of the day with a 6-2 win in the second slot. In No. 3 doubles, sophomore Arielle Shuren (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) and freshman Sarah Hall (West Orange, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) clinched the team point with a 6-3 victory.
The Tigers (10-8, 3-4 CAA) responded by taking a 3-1 lead with singles victories in the first, sixth and fifth flights.
Freshman Annie Jaskulski (Wilmington, Del./Friends) posted Delaware's first singles win by defeating Barbora Vasilkova, 7-5, 6-2, in the third slot.
Komer then tied the match at 3-3 with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 score over A.J. Gomer in No. 4 singles.
The results came down to the wire with No. 2 singles serving as the day's deciding factor. Unfortunately for the Hens, Lucy Williams was able to pull out the 6-3, 7-6 (4) win over UD junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) as Delaware dropped its fourth straight match.
