Men's Golf CAA Preview: Kyle Martin Leads Blue Hens Into Conference Tournament

“Since we are a Northeast team our spring season is more difficult to prepare for, but we were able to make the most out of our indoor facilities, which helped a lot towards developing a somewhat repeatable swing before we went outdoors,” said Keogh.
Blue Hen senior captain Kyle Martin, who finished in the top five at the conference tournament last year, has played this course twice before and is confident that being able to go back and having experience on the course will be beneficial.
“You really need to know where to hit it off the tee, and some of the greens are elevated so you have to be precise with your distance control,” said Martin.
According to Martin, JMU and College of Charleston are the teams to beat this weekend.
“We will be going up against some tough competition, but I am confident our team is able to play well if we come together at the right time,” he stated.
The Founders Club is known for its hazards and narrow fairways, so minimizing the big numbers and making sure you're in the right spot off the tee will be the key to going low this weekend.
“The birdies will come if we can stay out of trouble,” Martin said.
Martin will play as #1 this week for Delaware, along with Blaine Lafferty, Kieran Purcell, Mark Benevento, and Marc Oliveri.
“Jack Gianniny was our number one man all year but is not traveling,” Keogh explained. “He had pneumonia at the start of the spring season and his swing never really got grooved to the point where we both felt comfortable that it was ready enough for CAA's.”
According to Keogh, all the players are striking the ball well but the telling factors will be how quickly they adapt to the different southern grass on the course for chipping and if they can hole their fair share of putts.
