ELKTON, Md. – Delaware wrapped up conference action Sunday evening with a 4-1 loss to Drexel at Elkton Indoor Tennis.
The loss was the fifth straight for the Blue Hens (8-8, 0-6 CAA), who were held winless in league play for the first time in program history.
Junior Denny LaMachia (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) captured UD's lone victory of the day by defeating Clary Rodriguez Cruz, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 2 singles. The win marked LaMachia's team-leading 15th singles victory of the season.
The Dragons (13-5, 2-3 CAA) collected the team doubles point with wins in the second and third flights.
LaMachia tied the match at 1-1 before Drexel rattled off three straight singles decisions in the first, fourth and third flights for the victory.
“This was a tough loss today. With the no-ad scoring, we are so close in these matches. IT's a matter of a break-through on the important points. Everyone is developing into the players they need to be at the collegiate level, but it's a process. As much as we want instant gratification, we must go through the process.”
