Three Blue Hen Boats Win Heats on First Day of Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA -- Three Blue Hen boats won their heats on Friday as the University of Delaware rowing team enjoyed a successful first day at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
The Novice Fours boat finished in first place out of six crews during its heat by recording a time of 8:30.611, narrowly edging Grand Valley State which placed second in 8:30.950. The Novice Eights also won its six-team race, crossing the finish line in 7:30.276, seven seconds ahead of second place Purdue. The Varsity Eights was the third UD boat to capture its heat, as the Blue Hens edged three other crews by posting a time of 7:05.582.
All three Blue Hen boats advance to the semifinals on Saturday.
The UD Junior Varsity Eights placed second out of five boats with a time of 7:18.174, finishing only behind UMass in 7:01.807. The UD boat advanced to the finals, which will be held on Saturday.
The Varsity Fours finished ninth out of 31 schools during its time trial by crossing the line in 6:57.492. That time advances the Blue Hens to the semifinals on Saturday.
