Kieran Purcell Finishes Third, Blaine Lafferty 16th at New Jersey State Amateur

ALPINE, N.J. -- University of Delaware men's golfer Kieran Purcell tied for third place while teammate Blaine Lafferty tied for 16th place this week at the 115th New Jersey State Golf Association Amateur Championship.
Purcell (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) carded a nine over par 72-71-77-69-289 on the par 70, 6,554-yard Montammy Golf Club to tie for third place out of 99 golfers. His final round 69 featured birdies on the second and ninth holes, while he carded just one bogey on the day.
Purcell finished behind only Thomas La Morte, who fired an even par 280, and Max Greyserman, who recorded a two over par 282.
Lafferty (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) tied for 16th place at the New Jersey Amateur by firing a 19 over par 71-73-77-78-299.
Both Purcell and Lafferty recently finished their second seasons with the Blue Hens. Purcell was the only Delaware player to appear in all 12 tournaments during the year, ranking second on the team with a 75.45 average round. He tied for third on the squad with three top-20 finishes, and led UD at the CAA Championship by tying for 14th place. Lafferty competed in all but one invitational during 2015-16, ranking third on the team by averaging 75.68 shots per round.
